LIST 99 - 02/11/12
Hello again,
So... the last List before the century is brought up. Fanfare for a big, special event of a List next week? Nope - it's just a number, really, when all's said and done. List #50 passed with no ceremony accorded it beyond being filled with really interesting music, and #100 will follow suit.
This week's assortment isn't bad, either. I have been slow off the mark in getting anything off the astonishing comeback from Dexy's included before now, but am happy to put that right here. A less successful return overall has been that of Stars, but the single included here is one very bright point amongst an album whose change of direction doesn't for the greater part work for me. Ah well.
Ben Folds Five gets the Then and Now treatment, and lover of 1980s puppets will find the new video included an absolute scream. The Tuts are as young, raw and gobby a proposition as the UK indiepop scene has been blessed with for a long time and look set to win scores of admirers in 2013, whilst on a rather different sonic level I'm delighted to have finally remembered to include "Names", by a long margin my favourite Cat Power track ever and a breathtaking piece of work (much loved by Peel) nearly a decade on.
