Hello again,

A regular List for you this week following the Festival specials on the last four occasions, though there is a small element of "festival creep" in the selection with the likes of Linda Guilala, School Of Seven Bells, The Just Joans and The Orchids making a swift reappearance.

I'm delighted that someone suggested Billie The Vision & The Dancers to me in the last few days, and their splendid fragile acoustic numbers could yet become my next obsession. At the other end of the niceness scale, perhaps, the more theologically delicate of you may like to know in advance that much in the Juno Reactor video either depicts or hints at Satanism. That Music List was defunct during the World Cup, as you probably know, so the Eux Autres World Cup track, replete with Japanese animation video, is our somewhat belated addition to the canon of appropriate footie songs. LIST 40 - 16/07/10 (Indietracks Festival special, part one)

...And from Latitude, so we move onto Indietracks, the only festival I'll be getting to go to in person this summer, and the one I regard as the most indispensible now - it'll be my third visit, and certainly not the last.

Finding clips for some of the Indietracks roster is hard, given some of their degrees of Youtube-shyness, but I've managed to fill two Lists all the same. I noticed in compiling that I hadn't included "Do The Indie Kid" previously, despite thinking I had - it turned out that I'd added "My Boss was in an Indie Band Once" in List 37 in its stead by accident. As the latter had already appeared in List 31, it thereby counts as the first ever song to figure in more than one list. Drat it, I was hoping to go longer than that!!! Well done if you spotted the error before I did. Ah well, one duplicate every 600-odd songs isn't bad going, I suppose...

LIST 38 - 02/07/10 (Latitude Festival special, part one)

Back again, with apologies for the two-month absence since the last update. We have an unforeseen bout of unemployment, the resultant scramble for a new job, and the 150-mile move back up the country to start that job to thank for this, but everything is mercifully back on an even keel now and That Music List comes to you from hereon in from God's own Yorkshire. It's great to be back up this neck of the woods again after over six years away.

Be that all as it may. As per last year, July's Lists are mostly given over to festival line-ups, with this being the first of two specials to celebrate the upcoming Latitude event in Suffolk. Overall I think it's actually a poorer line-up than last year's, with a lot of the space on the small, interesting stages given over to major label (over-) endorsed singer-songwriter wannabees - how many Tiffany Pages can one industry sustain?

No matter. I think I've found some decent stuff all the same. Delighted to see how much the likes of The Good Natured and Elinor Rose Dougall are developing now, and how have I managed to miss School Of Seven Bells for so long? Joe Worricker, meanwhile, is either a genius pop creation or Rough Trade well and truly on the p*ss-take - I still can't decide which...
