LIST 213 - 29/07/16 (Indietracks 2016 special, part two)

Hello again,

It's the second half of this year's Indietracks special today, and with that the final List for this seventh season - let's see if circumstances permit there to be an eighth later in the year.  I hope so.

For the time being, if you're heading off to this 'ere indiepop festival this evening, I'll be the one in a Chuckie Egg t-shirt clasping a pint of something improbably dark.  If Stewart Lee deigns to make an appearance during Simon Love's set tonight, I might just go a bit giddy and fanboyish and embarrassing.

LIST 211 - 15/07/16

Hello again,

Not very much longer to go with this seventh season of That Music List - just a couple of Indietracks specials to follow, and then that's me done until the late autumn.

This two hundred and eleventh edition does have one trait which none of the preceding episodes does, however - this is the first one without a single moving video of any description to look at.

It's got a bit harder in recent times to find enough of a balance of videos and non-videos, to be honest, and I'm feeling pretty unapologetic that there's no animations, no bands playing against dramatic backdrops, comedy promos, etc. to offer this time.  If your musical tastes are determined first and foremost by what happens in the video, I'm sure OK Go will be happy to accommodate you.

Ahem, yes, so then.  Nothing at all to look at here, but plenty to enjoy with your ears.  Warp veteran Mark Pritchard's Vashti Bunyan-sampling Under the Sun is right up there with the best things I've heard all year, and is a particular pleasure to include this time.  Elsewhere, the Warp mini-theme this week is upheld by Odd Nosdam's breathaking Trish, a tribute to the late Trish Keenan of Broadcast which I've inexplicably overlooked in the near three years since its initial release.

LIST 209 - 01/07/16

Hello again,

A slightly different look to this List and probably all others hereafter, as a mere seven years and 209 editions into this feature I've worked out how to do title links in Blogger without the URL still showing.  Atta boy!

In terms of new music, there are particularly lovely new things this week from Barry Adamson, Mogwai, Chorusgirl and Citizen Helene among others, plus something from Nancy Sin which naturally compels me to include the Beat Happening song after which said act took their name.

The Blur track late on, of course, is one many of you will know better as a much shorter song named The Anniversary Waltz. This, however, is the oldest and to my mind best incarnation of the song, lifted from a session on Mark Goodier's pre-Lamacq/Whiley incarnation of the Evening Session.  Those were the days...
