Hello there,
As promised, herewith part two of my preview of The Best Music Festival Of Them All (that's not up for discussion, incidentally :-) ), and also as promised I've put it up a few days before the usual Friday List day. Between the two lists, I think I've managed to find something for all bar about six of the performing acts - apologies to those concerned.
One or two new contenders for my favourite single of the year in this list, too, not least the splendid effort by Crystal Stilts. The rest isn't half bad, either. Really really. Enjoy!

LIST 60 - 22/07/11 (Indietracks Festival special, part one)
Hello again,
Pleased to report that the time of my favourite festival of them all, Indietracks, is once again nigh; and also that there appears to be enough material on video out there to push your way two That Music Lists dedicated to it, this week and next.
A little creative liberty has been required to find some Graeme Elston and Oxo Foxo for you, but hopefully not a diabolical one.
As usual, and heaven forfend it ever not be the case, going through the entire running order in the name of That Music List has helped polarise some of my decisions on whom to see. I don't think I'm going to have any less packed a weekend than usual among the trains, stages and very good friends deep in the heart of the East Midlands this time.
Although it'll say "Friday 29th" on it, I'll try to get part two of this special online a few days in advance for you - little point advocating going to Indietracks with a List when the thing is already in full cry!

LIST 59 - 15/07/11
Hello again,
I expect either the next one or two lists will have something to do with my highlight of the year, the forthcoming Indietracks festival, but before that eventuality here's another general mix of things for you.
Of course, Acid House Kings' perfect pop would find a happy home at that festival, but they don't appear to be among the customary contingent of bands from Scandinavia booked this time around. Nor was this song entered for Eurovision, either, which I think it would have walked. It's incalculably better than that dirge from Azerbaijan that emerged on top this year, anyway.
I digress. Lots of other stuff to draw to your attention this week; from the triumphant (ska-tinged?) return of Kitty Daisy and Lewis, to a double helping of the always-engaging Cornershop, to almost certainly far too much swearing, to an only recently unearthed McCarthy track, to the best thing Mark Ronson's ever had anything to do with, to the Rainbow theme in its entirety (just because)... etc. etc. General's the word.
Oh, and that's before even mentioning one of the most beautiful songs I've heard in years, despite missing it completely on release in 2009 and for all the intervening period until he played it live in my new home city last night. Step forward Mark Everett...

LIST 58 - 08/07/11
Hello again,
After last week's C86-themed return to action, here is the first mixed offering of 2011 on That Music List. After the year's tribulations to date, I have a pile of unplayed stuff to make even the late Mr Peel blush. I'm not going to be stuck for material for quite some time, I imagine!
The last two songs are ones that, if I hadn't exactly not anticipated adding any time soon, then I certainly hadn't anticipated adding as a memorial to their respective singers. Trisha Keenan and Gregory Isaacs both left us at the start of 2011, far too early in each case, and it was hard to boil down two diverse portfolios of work into one choice each.

LIST 57 - 01/07/11 (25th anniversary of the C86 compilation album special)
Well......
A hiatus of exactly six months certainly wasn't the intention, but a second redundancy situation in 10 months and some health issues ensured that that is how long it became. No matter, all those issues have been finally resolved in the affirmative. So, shall we put a record on? :-)
The first That Music List of 2011 is one I've been saving up for a bit, and is a special List dedicated to C86, the seminal album released by New Musical Express back before it crippled itself under its own weight of - by turns - fickleness and cynicism.
It would have been too easy just to find a clip of every song on the original album, so instead a few alternative tracks from C86-featured artists appear. And some of those supersede the original compilation by quite some margin - the Pastels' pretty recent output gave me the perfect excuse to make them the "them and now" subject for this List (yep, all the old features of previous Lists are being maintained as far as possible...). There are a lot of other themed Lists in the offing in the next few weeks, but I think I'll throw in a few general mixes after this and on the run-up to Indietracks.
Thanks as always for your interest and support,

Thanks as always for your interest and support,
J x
