LIST 59 - 15/07/11
Hello again,
I expect either the next one or two lists will have something to do with my highlight of the year, the forthcoming Indietracks festival, but before that eventuality here's another general mix of things for you.
Of course, Acid House Kings' perfect pop would find a happy home at that festival, but they don't appear to be among the customary contingent of bands from Scandinavia booked this time around. Nor was this song entered for Eurovision, either, which I think it would have walked. It's incalculably better than that dirge from Azerbaijan that emerged on top this year, anyway.
I digress. Lots of other stuff to draw to your attention this week; from the triumphant (ska-tinged?) return of Kitty Daisy and Lewis, to a double helping of the always-engaging Cornershop, to almost certainly far too much swearing, to an only recently unearthed McCarthy track, to the best thing Mark Ronson's ever had anything to do with, to the Rainbow theme in its entirety (just because)... etc. etc. General's the word.
Oh, and that's before even mentioning one of the most beautiful songs I've heard in years, despite missing it completely on release in 2009 and for all the intervening period until he played it live in my new home city last night. Step forward Mark Everett...
