LIST 109 - 06/12/13

Hello there,

The fifth and final List for this comeback week, albeit not with the exact playlist I'd intended even 24 hours ago.  One specific world news event has transcended all others overnight in a way you cannot have failed to have missed, however, and I have no hesitation in adding a couple of tracks dedicated to the memory of Nelson Mandela to the end of today's selection.  Rest in peace, Madiba.

Elsewhere, an outstanding solo set I saw in Sheffield by Helen McCookerybook last month is reason enough to give "24 Hours" by her first band The Chefs an overdue airing; ditto the fact that her husband Martin Stephenson accompanied on a few numbers reason enough to include my favourite track of his ever.  It's not all classic old numbers this time by any means, however, with Spook School providing the visceral new pop thrills, MGMT the chemically enhanced knockabout fun (no, really), and Omar Souleyman the pulsating and irresistible Sudanese dance music.
