LIST 140 - 26/12/14 (2004 special, part two)

Hello there,

Part two of the 2004 retrospective brings together some more tracks by Peel favourites such as The Fall, FSK, PJ Harvey and McLusky, all of whom will likely have featured in some of his final shows before his unexpected and sad passing in October of that year.

Early sightings here of the likes of Art Brut, Humousexual, Eux Autres and Githead.

That's your lot from That Music List for 2014, with the next edition out a week today on January 2nd 2015...  Enjoy your New Year celebrations, whatever form they take.

LIST 139 - 25/12/14 (a Christmas selection)

Hello again,

Just about the most self-explanatory List I do every year - the usual 70-odd minutes' worth of festive-oriented selections offered up as an antidote to what, I'm given to understand on social media, was a particularly wretched Top of the Pops Christmas edition earlier today.  Not much Auto-tuning amongst this assortment!

Best wishes of the season to one and all,

J xx

LIST 138 - 24/12/14 (2004 special, part one)

Hello there,

Straddled either side of tomorrow's Christmas special, here's the first of two Lists containing selections from (just about) a decade ago.

This was, of course, the year the music died for many of us, following the death in October of John Peel; so among the selections it seems only appropriate to include contributions from Ballboy, People Like Us, Half Man Half Biscuit and Neko Case today and a few other of the great man's favourites on Friday.

Very early sightings of M.I.A and the late Gravenhurst here; contrariwise a very late sighting of both The Delgados and (barring the odd reconvening since then) Cinerama.

LIST 137 - 23/12/14 (1994 special, part two)

Hello there,

Part two of the 20-years-ago-today selection finds us enjoying a "long" version of a very early Melt-Banana track that's still under two minutes long; the song that facilitated the first ever Top Of The Pops appearance of Mark E Smith (which in turn was used as a honey trap to get John Peel to present that show once more, and thence get surprised by This Is Your Life's big red book!); Beck listing a lot of regurgitated food; and much more besides.  2004 bits follow tomorrow.
