LIST 127 - 09/12/14

Hello again,

Another mix of allsorts on this occasion, including a couple of particular personal favourites of this year from Comet Gain and Dum Dum Girls.  I love the latter's continuous subtle reinventions - something more of the 1980s about them this time.

The Catenary Wires weren't actually called The Caternary Wires at the time the clip of Amelia Fletcher and Rob Pursey (for it is they) was filmed, but they do answer to that now.  The clip, as some of you will recognise straight away, is taken from their performance at the concert which followed the world premiere of My Secret World, the long-awaited and fabulous Sarah Records documentary which played to an enraptured crowd of the fabled label's devotees at the Arnolfini in Bristol back in May.  I'd have loved the documentary even if I hadn't received a tiny wee credit in it...

A sad finale to this List again, I'm afraid, following the untimely passing of Nick Talbot, the man who was effectively Gravenhurst, only last week aged just 37.  I was back in Bristol visiting friends last weekend when learning of the news, and it's fair to say that the sense of loss among the broader music population of the city is tangible.  The real ale pub we spent part of the Saturday evening in noticeably hushed as the first few bars of The Prize, taken from Talbot's final album from 2012, faded in.
