LIST 03 - 27/02/2009

Hello again,

A note of caution to anyone who doesn't know the song already is that the Jarvis Cocker track that concludes today's selection could hardly be swearier if it tried.

I was moved to include it after learning that MTV have cancelled the 120 Minutes show, by a long margin my main source of new leftfield music over the last three years.

The producers of the show chose Ruling the World as the last song they ever played on it - no love lost between them and their soon to be ex-employers, it would appear...

LIST 02 - 19/02/2009

Hello again,

Well, doing that first List four days ago was such fun, I decided not to wait the whole week to publish another.  Enjoy!

I'm particularly grateful to some wonderful soul sticking Considering a Move to Memphis on YouTube.  Its popularity has felt like a slow burn to me over the twenty years since its original release... or maybe I've just not been tuning in to the radio stations that were still playing it regularly all along.  Either explanation is plausible.

Cardiacs become the first to receive the Then and Now feature treatment, in which a new and very much not new track by the same act are offered up back to back.

How much more music there is actually to some from Cardiacs remains uncertain, of course, given the band's driving force and bona fide genius Tim Smith remains incapacitated following a cardiac arrest.  The most cruel of cruel ironies.

As is perhaps to be expected from something drawing from a number of sources, sound levels vary a bit from one clip to the next.  To attain best results, do touch that dial!

LIST 01 - 15/02/2009

The preamble:

Quite simply, That Music List is a vaguely weekly-ish list of links to songs past and present that I really like, and would love to share with anyone interested in extending their musical palate at no cost to themselves (other than your connection time on the Interweb, of course).

There's roughly about 80 minutes of music in each new list - partly as it's a manageable length of time, and partly to replicate (sort of) that feel of the list representing the contents of a really varied home-compiled CDR.

That Music List was inspired by the lengthy music-oriented threads I have posted to the message board of activity group Spice over the last three years, and the lounge area of The Racing Forum for the last five.

It was going to be named either "Listen Without Prejudice", but George Michael nicked that first; or else "Keep An Open Mind Or Else" (after the revered single by late-80s Marxist indiepoppers McCarthy), but on balance that seemed a bit aggressive!

Right, then. So here goes!  Do feel free to discuss any of the songs contained herein in the comments section.
