Percussive Welsh quartet Islet are a real joyous find - I'm going to enjoy following them from hereon. Back again, with apologies for the two-month absence since the last update. We have an unforeseen bout of unemployment, the resultant scramble for a new job, and the 150-mile move back up the country to start that job to thank for this, but everything is mercifully back on an even keel now and That Music List comes to you from hereon in from God's own Yorkshire. It's great to be back up this neck of the woods again after over six years away.

Be that all as it may. As per last year, July's Lists are mostly given over to festival line-ups, with this being the first of two specials to celebrate the upcoming Latitude event in Suffolk. Overall I think it's actually a poorer line-up than last year's, with a lot of the space on the small, interesting stages given over to major label (over-) endorsed singer-songwriter wannabees - how many Tiffany Pages can one industry sustain?

No matter. I think I've found some decent stuff all the same. Delighted to see how much the likes of The Good Natured and Elinor Rose Dougall are developing now, and how have I managed to miss School Of Seven Bells for so long? Joe Worricker, meanwhile, is either a genius pop creation or Rough Trade well and truly on the p*ss-take - I still can't decide which...

Johnny Cash continues to release new product from beyond the grave, with the choice here taken from new release "American VI", whilst the Durutti Column track is taken from the self-explanatory tribute album "Paean to Tony Wilson" - sampled thoughts from the great man himself feature prominently. Massive Attack get the then and now treatment, whilst Goblin's track corrects this website's dereliction of duty hitherto to include any soundtracks from Italian splatter movies. ;-D

There's the welcome return of a number of long-absent friends in this week's digest. The return of The Hidden Cameras I managed to miss completely (Oops. How???), but progress on Gogol Bordello and Nina Nastasia has been monitored on a nigh-monthly basis for years, and has ultimately proven well worth it.

The new Bomb The Bass single is reason enough to do a Then And Now on Tim Simenon's enduring project (23 years and counting, I make it), and there are a couple of other genuine curiosities. The Trembling Blue Stars track, all ninety-three seconds of it, was recorded for live-action / puppet-based kids' TV show Yo Gabba Gabba of all things; whilst Anna Fröderberg's track is taken from an album released in January entitled "27 Songs from Barcelona", a triple album featuring one track from each of the 27 members of sainted Swedish indie-pop choir I'm From Barcelona. As the album was limited to 200 vinyl copies worldwide, it's safe to assume we won't be seeing too many of these knocking around in future, other than at inflated prices on eBay.
